Across the Pond & Beyond: Cross-cultural Negotiations
International negotiation has multiple complexities working with both the environmental and immediate contexts affecting the negotiator and the negotiation process. Effective international negotiators understand and manage these contexts.
By conceptualizing culture and focusing on its influences, the negotiator can see culture’s effect on the outcomes, the process, the individual cognition and ethics. With an awareness and understanding of culture’s influence, a negotiator can then utilize 8 different culturally responsive negotiation strategies in their future negotiations.
This interactive session provides professionals with an in-depth under-standing of how culture affects negotiation through the use of case studies and group work; as well as why it is important to take cultural influence into consideration before beginning to negotiate.
Understand culture’s effect on negotiation and the individual negotiators.
Become knowledgeable on the 8 culturally responsive strategies and how to use them.
Effectively take this newly found knowledge into their next international negotiation for a more successful and efficient outcome.
Larissa J. Schultz, CMP, MHA, is an advocate of continuing to grow through learning and forward momentum! She has been actively involved in the meeting management industry for over 21 years and is the founder/owner of Journey-Wide Travel & Events. Her background and experience as a meeting planner includes working with corporations and associations planning both domestic and international conferences and meetings. She has been an active member of Meeting Professionals International (MPI) for over 20 years and is a Past President of the Southern California Chapter Board of Directors. Larissa has presented at a multitude of industry conventions, congresses, webinars, and conferences including PCMA, Best Events, MPI WEC, as well as regional MPI Chapter meetings and conventions across the country. Larissa is also an adjunct professor at Glendale Community College teaching in the Hospitality and Tourism program. Three things she believes in - laughter, a good glass of wine, and trusting your own instincts.
